Following the 2025 General Synod motion affirming the importance of hearing and responding to the voices of children and young people, exciting opportunities are growing for young adults to participate in the life and decision-making of the Church of England.

Become a Co-opted Young Adult Synod Member
This year, five young adults (including one from the Diocese of Leicester) joined General Synod as non-voting co-opted members, participating in debates, connecting with Church leaders and wider networks, and contributing their perspectives as valued members of the Church.
One current co-opted member said: "Being co-opted onto General Synod has made me feel like young people's voices are cared about. We are not being consulted on a specific issue or reduced into a statistic. Instead, we've been invited to understand the challenges facing the Church, listen to different perspectives, and contribute on our own terms."
The Church of England is looking to support another five young adults aged 18-25 years to join General Synod at the November (2026), February (2027) and July (2027) meetings in York and London.

Join the General Synod Young Voices Network
For young adults who would like to learn more, connect with others, and explore Synodical life, the General Synod Young Voices Network is a great place to start. The network offers young people the opportunity to:
- Join regular online gatherings for fellowship and reflection
- Attend Synod fringe events and visits
- Connect with young adults from across the country
- Help inform and support the voices of young people in Synod

Together we want to encourage and equip the next generation of leaders. Every voice matters, and we would love to see more young adults from our diocese engaging in the life and governance of the Church.
