Children & Youth Poll

The Diocese of Leicester aims to meaningfully incorporate the voice of children and young people into decision-making. This engagement must ensure safeguarding, representation and inclusion. Mitigate barriers for children and young people, such as location, time, and accessibility of meetings. Move beyond tokenism to full participation.

What is CYPoll?

CYPoll stands for Children & Youth Poll. A consultative process where children and young people can discuss and vote on a synod agenda item, so their collective opinions are heard and inform decision making.

How will the CYPoll work?

An item from synod agenda will be selected for consultation. A CYPoll session resource will be created for use in schools and with church groups. CYPoll sessions have three sections:

1. Presentation – present the agenda item (5 mins)

2. Ponder – invite participants to think about / discuss item (5-10 mins)

3. Poll – invite participants to vote in a multiple-choice poll (3-5 mins)

Poll results will be presented at Diocesan Synod by a young person or youth advocate (Bishop’s Nominee), who will be able to vote on the agenda item. Poll results and outcomes will be shared with participants.

We will complete our first CYPoll process in September 2026. The agenda item selected for consultation is ‘the diocesan budget’.
