St Philip’s Centre turned 20 in June and marked the anniversary with a series of events celebrating two decades of supporting interfaith engagement and community dialogue.
Founded in 2006, the Centre has grown into a place where people from different faith and belief backgrounds can meet, learn from one another, and build understanding to live well together.
In May, the Centre held an intercultural music event that captured the heart of what the St Philip’s Centre stands for. You can watch a highlights video here.
Also in May, a lunch was held to honour the founding director of the Centre, Revd Canon Dr Andrew Wingate. Surrounded by friends, colleagues, and family, Andrew reflected on the early days of the Centre and the vision and values that continue to guide its work today.
In June, a service was held in St Philip’s Church in Leicester, and then in early July, an afternoon tea at Launde Abbey. The gathering offered an opportunity to reflect and to thank those who have supported the Centre’s mission over the years.
Director of the Centre, Revd Canon Dr Tom Wilson, said: “It has been fantastic to mark 20 years of helping people learn how to live well together.
“We celebrated 10 years of activity not long after I took up the role as director, and it has been a real privilege to work at the Centre over the last 11 years, and to see the scope and scale of our activity continue to increase and develop over that time.
“I am especially grateful to His Majesty the King, for writing us a letter of support and encouragement that I was able to read out at our celebration service.
“We live in challenging times, and we are committed to ensuring the St Philip’s Centre plays its part in helping people understand each other and develop and embed patterns of disagreeing well and supporting each other through difficulties.”
