Following a recent meeting with the visiting INEQE independent safeguarding auditors, Bishop Martyn has shared encouraging initial feedback from the safeguarding audit.
Drawing on survey responses, focus groups and individual conversations from across the Diocese and Leicester Cathedral, auditors reported clear evidence of progress in safeguarding in recent years, alongside examples of learning being translated into practice.
While the final report is not expected for some time and will include many recommendations for further improvement, the early findings suggest that the Diocese is moving in a positive direction.
Bishop Martyn recognises that safeguarding remains an ongoing journey of learning and development, but says there is good reason to be encouraged by the progress made so far.
He would like to thank clergy, lay ministers, parish safeguarding coordinators, church volunteers and everyone who participated in the audit process across the Diocese and Cathedral, recognising their contribution to ensuring that safeguarding remains at the heart of the Church’s life and ministry.
