Over the coming years we want to develop and deliver a more holistic environmental programme within our diocese.
We are therefore delighted to have been awarded a Capacity Building Grant from the Church of England’s national Net Zero Carbon fund.
The grant will enable us to employ a part-time Diocesan Environmental Officer who will work with parishes, particularly to develop the Eco Church Awards scheme, and a full-time Net Zero Carbon Programme Officer who will support parishes to make progress in their journey towards decarbonisation.
These new posts, which are fully grant-funded until the end of June 2029, will be advertised shortly and will support the delivery of our Diocesan Environmental Programme (2026-29), which has three mains aims:
- A commitment to achieve Eco Diocese Silver award by the end of 2029
- A commitment to reduce our diocesan carbon footprint in line with the national target
- To establish & maintain a flourishing network of Eco-Communities
In a related move, Gill Elliott, leader of our Church Buildings Team, will additionally take on management oversight of our environmental programme, including these two new roles.
