Four members of the Leicester diocesan Cursillo community recently attended the British Anglican Cursillo Conference (BACC) at Highgate House, Northamptonshire.
They were Joy Allman (Ultreya Coordinator), Carole Henson (Lay Director), Revd Biddy Saunders (Spiritual Director), and Adrian Trotter (Trustee).
The conference, on 8-10 May, offered encouragement, shared learning, and renewed vision for how Cursillo can continue to support and enrich the life of the Church across the UK - and here in the Diocese of Leicester.
What is Cursillo?
Cursillo (Spanish for “short course”) is a well-established Christian movement that offers a simple, powerful way of deepening faith. It is not a replacement for church life, but a companion to it -designed to support both lay people and clergy in their spiritual journey.
Endorsed by the Bishop and working in harmony with parish life, Cursillo provides:
- A welcoming introduction to intentional Christian living
- A supportive community rooted in prayer and encouragement
- A framework for ongoing spiritual growth and discipleship
At its heart, Cursillo seeks to inspire people to live out their faith more fully in their everyday lives - at home, at work, and within their church communities.
The Cursillo weekend is often described as a pilgrimage and church members are invited to take part as pilgrims. It offers a simple introduction to the purpose of Cursillo and to the way it supports ongoing faith development within the life of the Church. The weekend is relaxed and centres on spiritual growth through prayer, study, and action.
Many who attend find it both refreshing and transformative - an opportunity to rediscover joy in their faith and build lasting friendships.
