Celebrating New Steps in Faith

A service of Baptism and Confirmation with Holy Communion was held at St. Philip and St. James Church in Groby during June.

Nine people from churches across the Sparkenhoe East Deanery shared their stories of faith in the celebratory service, where Bishop Saju baptised, confirmed, and also received a candidate into the Church of England.

Those taking the next step on their journeys of faith were Karen, Jason, Josh, Tina, Bruce and Luke of St Mary’s Church in Anstey; Stephanie from St. Andrew’s Church in Leicester Forest East; and David and Paresh from St. Crispin’s Church, Braunstone Town with Thorpe Astley.

Sharing their stories with friends, family, and the church congregation, poignant words from their testimonies included:
“I wish to confirm my faith and continue my journey in the light of the Lord.”
“My commitment will continue to strengthen my faith in and love of Christ, and continue to guide my life.”
“I want to follow Jesus’ example by being kind, caring, making good choices and trying to do the right thing.”
“I want to keep growing in my faith and feel closer to God.”
“Jesus has helped me through the hard times, for which I am grateful.”
“God gives me his love and protection.”

The service of confirmation, led by Bishop Luke Irvine-Capel, that took place at St Aidan’s Church in New Parks, also during June, included 15 candidates - seven from the Filipino Chaplaincy, two from St Aidan’s Church, three from St Andrew’s Church, Jarrom Street, and three from St Chad’s Church in Leicester.

Please pray for all those who have recently been baptised and confirmed in the diocese.
