Flags Held High as Ravenstone Marks St George’s Day

For the eighth year running, St Michael and All Angels Church in Ravenstone welcomed the Scouts, Cubs and Beavers from the village for their annual St George’s Day Service, held on the first Sunday after 23 April.

The morning began at the Scout hut, where 27 smartly uniformed Beavers, Cubs and Scouts set off through the village in procession, flags held high. Families and friends followed close behind, heading to church in time for the 11am service.

On arrival, the flags were paraded down the aisle and placed by the altar rail, before the service, which had been specially shaped with children in mind.
Together, the congregation shared the story of St George, accompanied by rousing hymns including Jerusalem and He Who Would Valiant Be. Four Scouts played a special role, leading the prayers for the day.

The service ended with When the Saints Go Marching In, as the flags made their way back down the aisle once more.
From there, everyone headed to the Village Green to join the Ravenstone Events Group for the annual St George’s Day fête, rounding off the church and community celebration.
